Yum!

After we got home from the theatre, we had a bowl of this butter pecan ice cream I made this afternoon. Fantastic.

Throw it together

Just a little thing I threw together--chicken strips with kidney beans, salsa, and green chilis, topped with cheese. Pretty tasty.

A Bowl of Soup

A bowl of Chicken Tortilla soup. Yum.

French Toast

We had some old bread that needed to be used, but was past desirability for sandwiches, so I made French toast for breakfast. I love the new stove with a griddle in the middle.

Martyr

The pasta dinner I thought I had in the freezer wasn't there, so I found something for Walt for dinner and I just had a yogurt. I'm such a good wife. ;(

Take an Egg...

Egg salad sandwiches (just egg and mayo) are among my favorites.

Breakfast

Special K Strawberries and English Muffin. Very boring.

A Lite Dinner

Walt finished off the leftover soup and leftover casserole and I just had a salad with dried cranberries.

Olé

I had a frozen bean burrito for lunch.

Mid-Morning Snack

I do love oranges, though this batch I bought isn't as juicy as the last batch.

Waffle Wednesday

Walt suggested we have waffle Wednesday again, and I was only too happy to oblige.

Dessert

I had apples left over from the breakfast risotto a few days ago, so I made individual apple pies for dessert tonight.

An oldie and a goodie

This is a recipe I make frequently. I originally adapted it from a recipe in the La Leche League cookbook I've had for years and is my version of this "Mexican Skillet," made with Italian sausage, tomatoes, and spices.

Bad, bad me

When I was a little kid, my mother always made sugar pies out of leftover pie crust dough. I made two little apple pies for dinner tonight and had leftover dough, so I made myself a sugar pie for lunch (topped with cinnamon)

Old Bananas

I had a couple of bananas that were about to go bad, so I mashed 'em up and made banana muffins.

Soup

A "Tastefully Simple" dinner tonight--potato cheddar soup with some Hawaiian rolls.

A Visit to Denny's

After our meeting, Alison took me to lunch at Denny's. I had a Philadelphia cheese sandwich and fries.

Ooo...snacks!

When I got to my meeting, there were snacks waiting for us. I couldn't be impolite and refuse them!

Breakfast

Hurrying off to San Francisco this morning, so I had a quick breakfast of Raisin Bran and toast.

Dinner?

I didn't really eat a formal dinner tonight. Walt has a fasting blood test in the morning so it was too late for him to eat, when I began dinner preparations, so I snacked on ham and on yogurt, a bit here, a bit there.

The Last Clam Dip

We went to help our friend pack up her house before selling it. We have had so many parties there. I made the last batch of clam dip we will ever consume there. I also brought some turkey pinwheels and someone else brought fruit. This was "lunch."

We could have ham 'n' eggs

Years ago, we used to say "we could have ham 'n' eggs, if we had some ham and some eggs." Well, I have ham. I have eggs, so I had ham 'n' eggs.

A Lite Dinner

After my big lunch, I wasn't very hungry at dinner time, so just had cantaloupe and cottage cheese.

Where's the View?

We had just seen an episode of "Check Please, Bay Area," where one of the reviewed restaurants was a place called "Bette's Oceanview Diner," (which has no view whatsoever--and even if it did, it would be of San Francisco Bay), which is in Berkeley. I was driving home from my meeting around lunchtime and decided to check it out. One of the reviewers had praised the pancakes to the skies and when the waiter told me that "ricotta lemon pancakes" were the day's special, I decided to try them. I wouldn't say I was blown away--and next time I'll try regular pancakes. But all the food was delicious, the service was great, my eggs were cooked exactly the way I like them, and the sausage was also good. I would definitely go there again.

Oh, Jack..?

I had to leave early for a meeting in San Francisco, so I stopped at Jack-in-the-Box for a sausage, egg, cheese and biscuit breakfast, with orange juice.

Reruns

Nothing fancy. We had leftover casserole for dinner, with green salad instead of tomatoes.

...with a cherry on top

Even cottage cheese is better with a cherry on top.

A Bagel Breakfast

Do I like cream cheese? Why...yes I do, as a matter of fact. Why did you ask?

Dinner

Now the ham is showing up in a casserole. This is mac 'n' cheese (made from scratch, thankyouverymuch) with ham, leftover peas, and sliced tomatoes.

Hey...THIS isn't Chinese!

My plan had been to stop at Panda Express for lunch, but they had a huge line, so I decided to eat at home. First, I stopped at Peet's to pick up coffee. I saw they had a ham and cheese croissant, so I bought one and then brought it home to heat up. It was delicious!

Breakfast

I don't know what you call this, officially. I cooked onions until they were translucent, then added strips of corn tortillas and continued to c ook until the tortillas started getting crisp. They I added eggs and when they were nearly cooked, I tossed in a bit of Parmesan cheese. Topped the whole thing with Cheddar. Probably could be called a cholesterol bomb.

Dessert

Wow--another night with dessert. This is unusual. I had several of these certificates that I got after donating blood. I think they've been in my purse for at least a year. Since I ate lunch near Baskin Robbins, I decided to turn one in. I forgot to take a picture of the bowl I ate...it was "Baseball Nut" (vanilla with raspberry and cashews).

Ham Day #2

Leftover ham and artichokes. I suspect I'm going to be using a lot of that ham over the next week!

My lonely lunch

A friend of mine and I have a standing lunch date every other Wednesday, but she didn't show up today and I couldn't reach her by telephone, so I ate alone. I had broccoli beef, chow mein, won ton and some chicken thing. All tasty, though I was looking forward to the company.

Breakfast

One of my favorite cold cereals is Special K with strawberries. I top it with fat-free half and half, and then add some toast.

"Gleeful" dessert

Ending the night with an episode of "Glee" and sharing a Snickerdoodle with Polly.
In our continuing search for a new sushi place, tonight we tried Moshi Moshi, which was a bit more spendy, but was delicious...but it was also the first sushi place where I ever found Tiramisu on the menu (we didn't have any). For dinner we had two "rolls." The green roll was called a "Zero Hour" (so of course I had to order it!). It was tuna and avocado and I don't remember what. The other roll, that Walt ordered, had snow crab, shrimp and avocado. I couldn't make up my mind about drinks, so had all three: hot tea, water, and plum wine.

And yet again, again...

Still hungry, but I went for an orange instead of another bagel.

And yet again...

I am an emotional eater. I guess it's because today is the 11th anniversary of Paul's death that I can't seem to stop eating.

Lumpy Lunch

I went to the store yesterday, so I have a larger variety of food.

I was right

I knew that I would be hungry again before lunch.

Too Early

It's a rainy morning and I'm awake much too early (4:30). I will be hungry again long before noontime. And oh, by the way, today is the 11th anniversary of my son's death. :(

I started the day out right, nutritionally, but it went downhill rapidly from there.

Snicker, snicker

Couldn't pass up the chance to have a Snickerdoodle.

My Hammy

Ham was on sale today. I found out why. It wasn't very good...now I have a week's worth of ham left to use creatively.

Sometimes You Gotta

Yeah...into each life some junk food must fall. I was out running errands today and stopped at McDonald's. The only thing I ever order at McD's or Jack in the Box is a small regular cheeseburger (at Jack in the Box, I order it plain) and a small box of fries. I always have water in the car to drink.

Risotto for Breakfast

Oh my was this good! The recipe is here, but I made some changes to it. For one thing it has much more butter than necessary, because the butter was already melted in the crock pot before I discovered I didn't have enough rice. I had to adjust all the other quantities. For liquid I used orange juice and skim milk. It cooked about 5 hours on high and then another couple of hours on low (while I continued sleeping!). I added dried cranberries to it when I dished it up. Definitely a winner!

Baaa

I love these little Australian lamb chops. You wouldn't think one would be enough for dinner, but it's more than enough, especially when you pad with mashed potatoes and peas.

My Orange Lunch

Toasted cheese sandwich, an orange and some spicy hot V-8 juice. (There were lots of peanuts eaten during the morning--and afternoon--but I didn't stop to take pictures)

In the morning sun

I had breakfast this morning, as the sun streamed in through the Venetian blinds. Today it was eggs scrambled with cream cheese, and English muffins.

An Easy Dinner

On nights when I review a show, I often use Bertolli dinners, which make nice small meals that I can cook quickly. This was roast chicken with linguini

Quasi-Burrito

For lunch, I finally finished off the tostada mixture from the other day in a sorta-burrito. NOTE TO SELF: I do not like Guerrero brand tortillas! (I keep forgetting that)
